Tech Best Practices
What are the agency’s technology best practices?
- The device issued to you is agency property and should be used for work purposes.
- You are the only person who should have access to your work device, unless receiving support from the agency IT Department.
- It is acceptable for the IT person at the school(s) you serve to connect your work computer to a printer/wifi/network.
- You may store a few personal pictures on your device to be used for your background image/screen saver. Additional pictures should not be stored on your work device.
- Your work device can be used to access social media for work-related purposes (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc).
- Your work device may not be used for personal gain (ie. side business ventures).
- You can access your work email on your personal cell phone as long as you lock your homescreen on your phone.
- Avoid having your computer remember your credentials. Doing so makes it far too easy for someone else to access your accounts.
- Lock your computer when you step away from it for any amount of time.
- All repairs should be handled by our agency Repair Shop.
- It is acceptable to download something you are certain is safe, however, proceed with caution. Free screensavers and software on the internet are a known delivery mechanism for malware. Only download from a known source (ie. Google Chrome Web Store).
- Recent phishing attempts have been aimed at sending malicious files via a Google Doc (or other) link in an email. It is best practice to go to Google Drive to open files. If something looks strange, contact the sender of the email before opening anything suspicious.
